From the middle of the nineteenth century, Southport became a favourite sea-side
resort. Hundreds of thousands of people flocked here from Liverpool, Manchester,
and from towns all over Lancashire, brought by the railways which linked the town
to the centres of poplulation.
So it is no surprise that when picture postcards arrived in the mid 1890s, Southport
quickly became a focus for the photographers, artists and card manufacturers. Views
exist of many, if not most, of the main areas in and around the town.
So, we invite you to sit comfortably, and enjoy the changing views of our town, seen
throughout the last hundred years!
