Calendar for the 2017-2018 Season

The Calendar of our Meetings

Each year, we try to bring a varied, not to say eclectic, range of subjects to the fore, with the aim of providing an interesting experience to all our members and guests. Hopefully, we succeed.

Very occasionally, for reasons beyond our control, it may be necessary to re-arrange or cancel a meeting. The Meeting Status indicator will be updated to amber if the meeting is under review, or red if the meeting has been cancelled. Full details will appear here

Calendar for the 2017-2018 Season

To make things clearer, we've colour coded the type of meeting:

[    ] Blue is for regular Members' Evenings,

[    ] Green is for Evenings where a visiting speaker will make a

       presentation, and

[    ] Red is for the AGM. Be there, or be on the Committee next year!

5th September 2017

We have a tradition in our Club of Alphabetic Philately. Each Season we have an evening of Members’ displays based around two letters of the alphabet; one from each half. This year, the two letters are ‘F’ and ‘U’  The only limits are those of imagination!

3rd October 2017

With the onset of cooler, not to say colder, weather it is appropriate that the speaker this evening will be our own member Adrian Esmat who will be looking at the Antarctic. Members are encouraged to bring their own material relating to Adventure, Discovery or Remoteness.

7th November 2017

If Music be the food of love, we should all be very happy after this evening’s presentation about Chopin, given by Richard Clay. Members are welcome to bring additional material for display, featuring Music, Art or Literature.

5th December 2017

We have a tradition of Christmas social evening’s with added extras, and the added extras this year will be a selection of material from our own widely varied collections. All ‘present’ and correct?

2nd January 2018

Our Guest Speaker this evening is Duncan Crewe from Liverpool Philatelic Society who will be giving us his presentation about the most famous of the early airports, Croydon, from where all the great and good arrived and left during the Golden Age of air travel, the 1930s.

6th February 2018

This evening is scheduled as a members’ evening, when we will be the recipients of several presentations from among our number, all relating to Overprints and Surcharges.

6th March 2018

This  evening will highlight a number of comings and goings as we review material displayed by our members relating to Transport. When you consider that this can include anything from horse and cart to Concorde our journey will be limited only by imagination.

13th March 2018

Today is by way of being an extra, as we are going on an awayday to visit the Northwich Philatelic Society, and taking some of our philatelic material with us to display. Society visits such as this are a great way to extend both knowledge and contacts within our hobby.

3rd April 2018  COMPETITION EVENING

This evening will see the competition for the John Winter Thematic Trophy. Entries should consist of 12 sheets of all types of philatelic material developing a theme according to a logical plan. Details of the scoring and the general rules can be found on our Competitions page

1st May 2018 THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Not just the AGM, but also the Club Auction, where the success of the sales can have a marked effect on the subscription for the coming year! So, if you want a say in who is on the Committee next year (or even who is not!) don’t forget to turn up!

5th June 2018

It has become traditional in our Club that the last evening of the season should be dedicated to postcards. The theme for this year’s evening will be posted in due course, but NOT second class.
